1.CERN(1991)

The link is a snapshot of the CERN site, the first website, as of November 1992. The Web was publicly announced (via a posting to the Usenet newsgroup alt.hypertext) on August 6, 1991.

2.World Wide Web Virtual Library(1991)

Originally Tim Berners-Lee's web catalog at CERN.

3.Stanford Linear Accelerator Center(1991)

Paul Kunz from SLAC visited Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in September 1991. He was impressed by the WWW project and brought a copy of the software back to Stanford. SLAC launched the first web server in North America on December 12, 1991.

4.ACME Laboratories(1991)

A free software site, created by Jeffrey Poskanzer, who created the compact web server thttpd. It is still active today.

5.National Center for Supercomputing Applications(1992)

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications site was an early home to the NCSA Mosaic web browser, as well as documentation on the web and a "What's New?" list which many people used as an early web directory.

6.Fermilab(1992)

Second web server in North America, following in the trend of high-energy physics laboratories.

7.SunSITE(1992)

Early, comprehensive archiving project. Project as a whole started in 1992 and was quick to move to the web.

8.Ohio State University [Department of Computer and Information Science](1992)

Early development of gateway programs, and mass conversion of existing documents, including RFCs, TeXinfo, UNIX man pages, and the Usenet FAQs.
By the end of 1993, there were 623 websites, according to a study by MIT Researcher Matthew Gray.

9.Bloomberg.com(1993)

Financial portal with information on markets, currency conversion, news and events, and Bloomberg Terminal subscriptions.


10.Doctor Fun(1993)

One of the first webcomics, noted by the NCSA as "a major breakthrough for the Web".

How to know which BIOS version I have?

Follow the steps given below:

1.In Windows 8, right-click the Start menu, and then click Run. You can also access this menu by pressing the WIN + X keys.


2.A RUN dialog box will appear.Type "cmd" in it and press ok.


3.The Command Prompt window opens.

The Command Prompt is a program lets you control your computer with text commands.Type "wmic bios get smbiosbiosversion".And then your BIOS version  number will appear.

How to open BIOS in Toshiba Laptops?

For Toshiba notebook PCs manufactured since the introduction of Windows XP
One or more of the following methods will be effective:

F2 key method
Turn the computer on. If you see an invitation to press the F2 key to enter Setup, do so. The Setup screen will appear.

Toshiba Hardware utility method
Run the Toshiba Hardware utility from the Toshiba Console. It may also accessible (as 'HWSetup') from the Windows Control Panel. Changes to some of the settings will require re-starting the computer. This method is the only way to access the BIOS settings on some notebook PCs (Satellite 5000 series, for example). (For these machines, pressing and holding the F12 key immediately after powering-on the notebook will allow you to alter the notebook's boot priority.)

If the Toshiba Hardware utility is not present, try the F2 key method and the Esc key method (see below). The Toshiba Hardware utility may be downloaded from the Toshiba support website at http://support.toshiba.com

If the computer is fully off, and/or to avoid having to re-start it (and Windows), use one or the other of the following two methods. The PC will have to be truly off (not suspended, or in standby mode, or in hibernation mode). If an external keyboard is attached to the notebook (either directly or via a docking station or a port-replicator), disconnect it until you have completed this procedure.

Esc key method
Turn the computer on. If you do not see a prompt to press the F2 key, then immediately press and hold the Esc key for three seconds, and then release it. When prompted to, press the F1 key. The Setup screen will appear.

For Toshiba notebook PCs manufactured before the introduction of Windows XP
One or more of the following methods are appropriate:

HWSetup method
Run the HWSetup utility from the Windows Control Panel. This utility provides a relatively user-friendly way to change the BIOS settings. Changes to some of the settings will require re-starting the PC (and Windows). HWSetup was pre-installed on all but early Toshiba notebook models. If it doesn't appear as a Control Panel applet on your computer, you may be able to download it from the Toshiba Support website as part of the Toshiba Utilities package for your model.

Esc key method
If an external keyboard is attached to the notebook, either directly or via a docking station or a port-replicator, disconnect it. Turn the computer on. Immediately press and hold the Esc key for three seconds, and then release it. When prompted to, press the F1 key. The Setup screen will appear. The PC will have to be truly off (not suspended, or in standby mode, or in hibernation mode) for this method to work.

TSETUP method
Run the TSETUP utility, under MS-DOS. TSETUP runs correctly only when executed from a 'native' MS-DOS prompt, and with the processor running in real mode -- so not from a Windows 'DOS box', and without any memory manager software running (EMM386.EXE, HIMEM.SYS, or QEMM386.EXE, for example). TSetup was pre-installed on most early Toshiba notebook models (except for the very earliest models). It is available from the Toshiba Support website.

For Toshiba desktop PCs and servers
Press and hold the F2 key immediately after turning the computer on (during the Power-on Self Test (POST)).
 
For Windows 8 PCs following ways are choosed:

 
Access to the system BIOS will depend on Windows 8 installed on your computer.
If you upgraded to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 from Windows 7, then you will follow the instructions under UPGRADE.

If your computer came from the factory with Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 installed, then follow the instructions under PREINSTALLED.

NOTE: On Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 operating systems that came preinstalled on the laptop from the factory, the BIOS has been replaced by UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface).
 
PREINSTALLED
 
IMPORTANT:The following procedures ONLY apply to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 operating systems that came preinstalled on the laptop from the factory when purchased new. These procedure DO NOT apply to Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 operating systems that were upgraded from Windows 7 or earlier.
 
To access the UEFI, perform the following:
 
IMPORTANT: There are many possible ways to enter the Advanced Startup Options, for additional ways to enter, refer to the How To: Safe Mode and other Advanced Startup Options in Windows 8 article. Use that article if this method fails.
 
Hold the Windows key and press the 'w' to open a search pane.
Type "UEFI" in the search box.
Select “Advanced Startup Options” or "Change advanced startup options."

Under the “General” menu item, scroll to the bottom.
Under “Advanced Startup” click “Restart Now” button. 

When the “Choose an Option” screen appears, select “Troubleshoot”. 

In the Troubleshoot menu select “Advanced Options”. 

In the Advanced Options menu select “UEFI Firmware Settings”. 

Click the “Restart” button to boot into the “Setup Utility” (UEFI) screen.

When the laptop restarts, the UEFI screen will be displayed.


UPGRADE
 
IMPORTANT: The following procedures ONLY apply to Windows 8 operating systems that were upgraded from Windows 7 or earlier. These procedure DO NOT apply to factory Windows 8 operating systems installed on the laptop from the factory when purchased new.
 
To enter the BIOS from a Windows 8 upgrade, you must first shut down the laptop completely (not suspended, or in standby mode, or in hibernation mode). If an external keyboard is attached to the laptop (either directly or via a docking station or a port-replicator), disconnect it until you have completed this procedure.

 
Use one of the following methods to acess the BIOS.
 
F2 key method
 
1.Turn the computer on.
2.If you see an invitation to press the F2 key to enter Setup, do so.
3.The Setup (BIOS) screen will appear.
4.If this method does not work, repeat it, but hold F2.
 
F12 key method
 
1.Turn the computer on.
2.If you see an invitation to press the F12 key, do so.
3.Boot options will appear along with the ability to enter Setup.
4.Using the arrow key, scroll down and select <Enter Setup>.
5.Press Enter.
6.The Setup (BIOS) screen will appear.
7.If this method does not work, repeat it, but hold F12.
 
Toshiba Hardware utility method
 
The Toshiba Hardware utility (HWSetup) can also be used to change some of the settings if F2 or F12 does not work. This method may only work on some laptops.
 
On the Start Screen type in HWSetup.
In the search returns select HW Setup to open.
Make changes as necessary and select "Apply."
Reboot the computer if not prompted to do so.

Increasing dedicated video memory in BIOS of desktop computers

Very often we face a problem of lack of graphics card.But actually there is a way to play games which need more video memory without graphics card.
Following are the steps to be followed:
1.Go to the BIOS of your PC.
2.Select Advanced chipset features.
3.Change the VGA Share Memory Size.

This will eat your RAM and is not much good for your PC.
